Bangladesh
National News: India has dismissed Bangladesh's remarks on the violence spread over the Waqf law in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The Ministry of External Affairs has described it as "misleading, incompatible and intentions". India has said that Bangladesh is making this type of "unnecessary and inappropriate" to divert attention from the atrocities on minorities in its country.
The press secretary of Bangladesh's Principal Advisor Mohammad Yunus had urged the Government of India to ensure the security of the Muslim community during the recent violence in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. So far, three people have been killed and hundreds of people have been injured in this violence. The violence took place over the amendment in the Waqf Property Act, which caused tension in many areas.
India's Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement, "This comment by Bangladesh is a clever effort to weaken India's legitimate concerns. What is happening to the minorities in Bangladesh is in front of the whole world. The criminals there are opening open and the government is not taking any concrete steps." He said that Bangladesh should first ensure the safety of minorities in their country, then comment on others.
There is political instability in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina removed from the post of Prime Minister. During this time, attacks on Hindu and other minorities by radical organizations have intensified. According to reports, about 200 temples have been damaged in the last few months and several Hindu priests have been arrested on false charges.
India has expressed concern about these incidents many times on international and bilateral forums. However, the Bangladesh government has repeatedly denied these allegations.
A confidential report submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs has revealed that Bangladeshi miscreants have played a role in the violence in West Bengal. These miscreants conspired to incite riots on the pretext of opposition to Waqf law. After this revelation, the round of allegations and counter-allegations between the Center and the Mamta Banerjee government has intensified.
India has clearly stated that it will not tolerate interference in internal affairs. It also made it clear that any country should improve the status of minorities in our country before "teaching morality lessons". This diplomatic tussle is now moving in the new direction amidst the controversy over the Waqf law.
